To solve for capillary pressure and relative permeability numerically from two-phase flow Thomeer (1960) observed that the capillary pressure data from MICP experiments can be fitted with a hyperbola by using three fitting parameters like G, Pd, and \left ({V_ {\text {b}} } \right)_ { {P_ {\infty } }} as shown in Eq. (5): In this work, we developed a novel methodology, based on Thomeer formalism and optimization techniques, for 1D capillary pressure estimation using “standard” log data. With this methodology, capillary pressure will cover a larger volume of the reservoir than the volume covered by the SCAL. model than that modified from Huet and Blasingame equation for estimating absolute permeability from mercury injec- tion capillary pressure data. The foundation of my new model is the petrophysical relation between absolute permeabil- ity and capillary-pressure/wetting phase saturation properties.

Reservoir engineers use capillary pressure to compute the original hydrocarbon in place and to estimate the ultimate recovery using fluid flow simulation. Traditionally, capillary pressure data are obtained from special core analysis (SCAL). 2016-01-19 The Thomeer Analysis is a method to evalute mercury injection capillary pressure (MICP) data. The resulting fitting parameters (displacement pressure, pore geometric factor, Bulk volume occupied at infinitive pressure) can be used to characterize the pore structure and to build a saturation model. Thomeer proposed a model of the following form for describing mercury-injection capillary pressure data: 2016-09-07 · The main mathematical models for capillary pressure are the Thomeer , Brooks–Corey , van , and the three-constant hyperbolic models [20–21]. The Brooks–Corey model is widely used owing to its accuracy [22–25], and it is expressed as (9) Or (10) 2011-09-01 · On the basis of Thomeer method, Clerke and Martin (2004) determined water saturation distribution in transition zone using type curve matching method with the capillary pressure data. However, Thomeer method does not match well with experimental capillary pressure data of highly heterogeneous porous medium because this method still treats the effect of pore system with a single value of pore geometrical factor.

The porosity can be used instead of the fractional bulk volume occupied by Summary Reservoir engineers use capillary pressure to compute the original hydrocarbon in place and to estimate the ultimate recovery using fluid flow simulation. Traditionally, capillary pressure data are obtained from the special core analysis (SCAL). SCAL is a time consuming and expensive procedure. As a result: only few measurements of capillary pressure can be done and capillary pressure In this study, eight permeability models are calibrated to a large mercury injection capillary pressure dataset obtained fromtheMiddleEastregion.Thepermeabilitymodelsare:Purcell,Thomeer,Winland In this chapter we will discuss how the capillary pressure curve determines the hydrostatic distribution of fluids in porous media.

It is based on previous study, and largely empirical. It is tested with over 200 samples covering a wide range of lithology iv (clean sandstone, shaly sandstone, and carbonates dominated by intergranular pores).

Abstract. A method is presented that provides a mathematical description of capillary pressure curves and, probably, of differences in pore geometry of samples. The technique is based on the observation that the location and shape of a capillary pressure curve reflect characteristics of the pore structure of the sample. The new capillary-pressure model is applied to evaluate sealing capacity of seals, calculate transition zone thickness and saturation above free water level in reservoirs. Good results are achieved through integration of well log data, production data, core, and geological concepts. In 1960, Thomeer 2 proposed a relationship between capillary pressure and mercury saturation empirically: Equation 3.

Apply models within log domain. Solve for free fluid level by hydraulic zone. Model design. There are four common functions available within the SHM module: Brooks-Corey, Lambda, Thomeer, and Leverett-J function. Each functional solution has three coefficients.

at shock fronts. Also since the order of the spatial differentials increased from one to two, the system is influenced by a second boundary condition, i.e. specified capillary pressure at the outflow boundary. Thomeer (1960) used three parameters (the extrapolated displacement pressure P d, the percent bulk volume occupied by mercury at infinite capillary pressure B ∞ and the pore geometrical factor G) hyperbola function to fit the MICP curve, thus the derivative of Thomeer hyperbola was used as PSD function. Thomeer proposed a correlation for estimating permeability from three parameters of the mercury capillary pressure curve, as mentioned previously. Swanson proposed a correlation between permeability and the intersection of a 45° line with the mercury capillary pressure relationship plotted on a log-log scale. Thomeer J. H.
